Gospel of Barnabas

""....and giving glad tidings of a Messenger who will come after me, his name being Ahmad..."" ( 61:6)

The Arabic Paper has acquired two copies of the "Gospel of Barnabas" in both languages, Arabic & English. Both copies were based on the original translation conducted by Lonsdale and Laura Ragg back in the late 18th century. Dr. Khalil sa'adah, an Egyptian Christian Qibt, was the sole translator of the Arabic copy. Dr. Sa'adah had met face to face with both Lonsdale and Laura Ragg and had sought their permission and assistance in his ultimate endeavor. Dr. Sa'adah had indeed seen and visually examined the original Italian Gospel located in the Imperial Library in Vienna, Austria.

Here is a cosmetic description that Dr. Sa'adah had given back in 1908, regarding the Original Italian Gospel, the Gospel of Barnabas:

Dr. Sa'adah said: " The only known copy of the Gospel of Barnabas is in Italian. The Gospel of Barnabas is located in the Imperial Library in Vienna, and it's considered as a rich and precious historical value. This Italian copy, the Gospel, consists of 225 thick pages with covers made out of dark yellow leather. The covers have double line border in a golden color. In the middle, there is an exquisite engraving in gold. "

Dr. Sa'adah continuos to say: " Christians dispute the fact that the true author of this Gospel is Barnabas, however, Christians claim that an angry Spanish Muslim was the original author of this gospel back when Islam was ruling Spain. A Christian Monk, Fra Marine, found this Gospel and after examining its contents, he converted to Islam right a way. In the year 495, long before Islam, Pope Galasiuos the First, ordered many original Gospels to be exterminated, including: the Gospel of Nazarenes, the Gospel of Egyptians, the gospel of Hebrews, and the Gospel of Barnabas. Pope Galasious the First kept one copy in his possession. This copy was passed unto other future popes, until it was found and made public in the 15th century. The Gospel of Barnabas has survived the destruction, since many pious and devoted Christians had vowed to harbour and preserve the teachings of Jesus, the Prophet of God. "

We have carefully investigated the article written by John Gilchrist titled "Origins and Sources of the Gospel of Barnabas". John Gilchrist said, " Although the Gospel of Barnabas has in recent years been distributed fairly widely throughout the Muslim world in many languages, most Muslims have not as yet seen a copy of this book. Nevertheless the knowledge of its existence is fairly widespread in the Muslim community." John Gilchrist continues to say, " Other Muslims believe that the Gospel of Barnabas is the "original testament" and that the Christians have substituted it with the "New Testament".

Having lived most of my life in the middle east and among the Muslim World, I've never heard of such Gospel, the Gospel of Barnabas. Having been to different mosques in different countries, and dealing with different Muslims, still, I've never heard of such Gospel. The only place I heard it from, not too long a go, was the Internet. Becoming so speculative about the big anxiety that Gospel of Barnabas has caused, I had to acquire a copy of this Gospel, in both languages; Arabic & English, to comprehend its contents. How could Muslims consider such Gospel as the Original Testament, as John Gilchrist claims, and yet, we've never heard of it in the first place?...The answer, " this is another Christian deceptive and fabricated lie to invalidate the truth about the true message of Jesus (PBUH).

If you read history, or even " the New Testament ", you'll realize that Barnabas was a dedicated companion of Jesus, while On the other hand, Paul wasn't even in the picture at all. Paul was busy killing and torturing Jesus' followers. Paul never met Jesus in his life, and yet, the New Testament is his creation. Paul's real name was "Saul" which is a popular Jewish name. When Paul couldn't annihilate Jesus' followers, he thought, " if you can't beat them, join them ". After alleging his ultimate lie that he saw Jesus on the way to Damascus, he started twisting the teachings of Jesus (PBUH), especially when Jesus was risen up.  Christianity is the only religion that has deviated far a way from the rest of the other religions by claiming that Jesus is the son of God. Also, there is no indication of worship practises in their books at all. Sunday's lectures, Bible studies and even their fasting, if you consider it one, have been designed by the Church, not Jesus. It's a shame to see many people heading toward Hellfire, while in their mind, they're heading toward Heaven. Regular confessions and " Bless me father for I have sinned " wouldn't help either... Alas.

Muslims don't need to fabricate Gospels to prove that Islam is the ONLY true religion there is. Muslims believe that the Holy Qur'an is Allah's final revelation to humanity, and we also believe that Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) is the final messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets. For that reason, neither Barnabas nor any other gospels should be considered authentic. The ONLY reason we're pursuing the Gospel of Barnabas, in view of, that the Gospel has illustrated many important and crucial facts that coincide with Islam, and why not!....it's been the same message all a long.

Some of the Decisive Facts that can be found in the "Gospel of Barnabas" are:

The Oneness of Allah (SW)

" ....He hath no father nor mother; He hath no sons, nor brethren, nor companions. And because God hath no body, therefore He eateth not, sleepeth not, dieth not, walketh not, moveth not, but abideth eternally without human similitude. For that he is incorporeal, uncompounded, immaterial, of most simple substance. He is so good that he loveth goodness only; he is so just that when he punisheth or pardoneth it cannot be gainsaid. In short, I say unto thee, Philip, that here on earth thou canst not see him nor know him perfectly; but in his kingdom thou shalt see him for ever: wherein consisteth all our happiness and glory. "( Gospel of Barnabas Ch# 17 )

" ....They said: 'Some say that thou art Elijah, others Jeremiah, and others one of the old prophets.' Jesus answered: 'And ye; what say ye that I am ?' Peter answered: 'Thou art Christ, son of God.' Then was Jesus angry and with anger rebuked him, saying: 'Begone and depart from me, because thou art the devil and seekest to cause me offence!' And he threatened the eleven, saying: 'Woe to you if ye believe this, for I have won from God a great curse against those who believe this.' And he was fain to cast away Peter; whereupon the eleven besought Jesus for him, who cast him not away, but again rebuked him, saying: 'Beware that never again thou say such words, because God would reprobate thee!' Peter wept, and : 'Lord, I have spoken foolishly: beseech God that he pardon me. " ( Gospel of Barnabas Ch# 70 )

"....For all that is written in the book of Moses is most true, inasmuch as God our creator is God alone, and I am God's servant ...." ( Gospel of Barnabas Ch# 206 )

Jesus (PBUH) is a Prophet of Allah, and not His Son

" Jesus, having received this vision, and knowing that he was a prophet sent to the house of Israel, revealed to Mary his mother, telling her that he needs must suffer great persecution for the honor of God, and that he couldn't any longer abide with her to serve her. " ( Gospel of Barnabas Ch# 10 )

" And when he had said this, the crowed drew high, and when they knew him they began to cry out: ' Welcome to thee, O our God !' and they began to do him reverence, as unto God. Whereupon Jesus gave a great groan and said: ' Get ye from before me, O mad men, for I fear lest the earth should open and devour me with you for your abominable words !' Whereupon the people were filled with terror and began to weep. " ( Gospel of Barnabas Ch# 92 )

" Then Jesus, having lifted his hand in token of silence, said: ' Verily ye have erred greatly, O Israelites, in calling me, a man, your God. And I fear that God may for this give heavy plague upon the holy city.....I confess before heaven, ....that I an stranger to all that ye have said; seeing that I am man, born of a mortal woman, subject to the judgment of God, suffering the miseries of eating and sleeping, of cold and heat, like other men,..Whereupon when God shall come to judge, my words like a sword shall pierce each one (of them) that believe me to be more than a man, " ( Gospel of Barnabas Ch# 93 )

Mohammad (PBUH) is foretold in Christianity

"...And though I have been innocent in the world, since men have called me "God," and "Son of God," God, in order that I be not mocked of the demons on the day of judgement, hath willed that I be mocked of men in this world by the death of Judas, makeing all men to believe that I died upon the cross. And this mocking shall continue until the advent of Mohammed, the messenger of God, who, when he shall come, shall reveal this deception to those who believe in God's law." ( Gospel of Barnabas Ch# 220 )

" ...After those years shall the angel Gabriel come into hell, and shall hear them say: "O Mohammed, where are thy promises made to us, saying that those who have thy faith shall not abide in hell for evermore?" 'Then the angel of God shall return to paradise, and having approached with reverence the messenger of God shall narrate him what he hath heard.' 'Then shall his messenger speak to God and say: "Lord my God, remember the promise made to me thy servant, concerning them that have received my faith, that they shall not abide for evermore in hell." 'God shall answere: "Ask what thou wilt, O my friend, for I will give thee all that thou askest." ( Gospel of Barnabas Ch# 136)

"....Wherefore, when the messenger of God shall come, he shall come to cleanse away all wherewith the ungodly have contaminated my book." ( Gospel of Barnabas Ch# 124)

Ishmael was to be sacrificed by Abraham, NOT Isaac

" The angel Gabriel answered: ' Arise Jesus, and remember Abraham, who being willing to make sacrifice to God of his only - begotten Ishmael, to fulfill the word of God, and the knife not being able to cut his son, at my word offered in sacrifice a sheep...." ( Gospel of Barnabas Ch# 13 )

" Abraham loved his son Ishmael a little more than was right, wherefore God commanded, in order to kill that evil love out of the heart of Abraham, that he should slay his son: which he would have done had the knife cut. " ( Gospel of Barnabas Ch# 99 )

Jesus was never crucified nor killed, but was raised up

"..Then God seeing danger of his servant, commanded Gabriel, Michael, Rafael and Uriel, his ministers, to take Jesus out of the world. The holy angels came and took Jesus out by the window that looketh toward the South..." ( Gospel of Barnabas Ch# 215 )

" Judas truly did nothing else but cry out: 'God, why hast thou forsaken me, seeing the malefactor hath escaped and I die unjustly?' Verily I say that the voice, the face, and the person of Judas were so alike to Jesus, that his disciples and believers entirely believed that he was Jesus; wherefore some departed from the doctrine of Jesus; believing that Jesus had been a false prophet, and that by art magic he had done the miracles which he did: for Jesus had said that he should not die till near the end of the world; for that at that time he should be taken away from the world. " ( Gospel of Barnabas Ch# 217 )
